Acupuncture
Traditional Acupuncture is an ancient medical tradition dating back 3000 years. Over the centuries, the practice of acupuncture has developed and adapted to meet changing cultural and societal needs. In the 21st century, it is recognised as a highly relevant contemporary healthcare profession in its own right, regulated by the British Acupuncture Council and approved by the World Health Organisation and the National Health Service for the treatment of a range of conditions.
The underlying principle of acupuncture is that illness and pain occur when the body's Qi or vital energy cannot flow freely through a network of channels in the body. These channels can become obstructed for any number of reasons, such as emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection, or injury. By inserting ultra-fine, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture seeks to re-establish the free flow of Qi to restore balance to the entire system, address specific symptoms and trigger the body's natural healing response.
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of physical conditions; however, many people have acupuncture simply because they feel generally below par and want to increase their wellbeing. If you are nervous about having acupuncture, please view our short video of a typical treatment in my Warwick clinic. You will see what happens and more importantly, how tiny the needles are, which will remove any fears you may have had. Please also download my seasonal news sheets on how to keep yourself healthy throughout the year.
Did you know that many health insurance companies include acupuncture in their policies; please check yours, as you may be able to get reimbursement for your treatments.
